2009-03-02: 3-Alarm Apartment Fire in Stoughton, Massachusetts

Stoughton - A fire that caused $500,000 in damages to a building in a Stoughton apartment complex and displaced 40 residents appears to have been sparked by someone smoking in bed.

“At this point investigators believe the origin of the fire was in a rear apartment on the second floor—it appears to have been accidental,” said Stoughton Fire Deputy Chief Mark Dolloff.

Five people, including two firefighters and a police officer, sustained injuries during the fire.

Multiple 911 calls reporting the fire at the Stone Ends apartments on Wheeler Circle came into Stoughton Police at 11:22 p.m. Sunday night.
