2007-07-27: Shots Fired, 2 Officers Injured

A Colorado State Patrol trooper and an Arapahoe County deputy were shot Thursday night when a passenger involved in a traffic stop pulled a gun and opened fire.

The trooper, identified early today as Dennis Wilder, was shot in the left foot. The deputy, Lt. Steve Curti, was wounded in the left wrist.

Another Arapahoe deputy, who was working with a multi-jurisdictional drunken-driving task force, returned fire, instantly dropping the passenger to the ground. He died at Denver Health Medical Center about three hours later.
